Will current HD plasmas be able to pick up 3D TV programs?
Question by Loz: Will current HD plasmas be able to pick up 3D TV programs?
I am guessing that 3d will be able to be to as I have heard that some football games are going to be televised this year in Australia, but only on Pay Channels. I may be wrong but there are several big manufacturers releasing combo 3D/blu ray players in mid 2010 in Australia.

Some plasma displays may be firmware upgradeable to support the new 3D standard, but no existing displays will support the new 3D format without an update (and still many won’t be upgradeable). Even if you can perform a firmware upgrade on your device, you will still need to purchase 3D shutterglasses and an IR emitter. Each pair of glasses are pretty expensive (about $ 150 AUD).
Manufacturers will be releasing new 3D TVs in a few months along with the 3D Blu-Ray players. 3D Cable TV is designed to use the same 3D standard Blu-Ray will be using so it will be fully compatible with your 3D display (or upgraded 2D display). Your set-top box (e.g. from Foxtel) will also need a firmware upgrade, but this will likely be done remotely and automatically by the cable provider.
