The 15th Web3D 2010 Conference to Explore High- Integrity 3D Multimedia Virtual Information Spaces

Web3D Consortium, Menlo Park (PRWEB) July 20, 2010

The Web3D 2010 Conference will be co-located with ACM SIGGRAPH 2010 (http://www.siggraph.org/s2010/), July 24 and 25, 2010 at the LA Convention Center, Los Angeles CA, USA. Attendees will share and explore methods of using, enhancing and creating new 3D Web and Multimedia technologies such as X3D, VRML, Collada, MPEG family, U3D, Java3D and other technologies.

With over 25 paper presentations, tutorials, workshops and panel sessions, the conference also focuses on recent trends in interactive 3D graphics, information integration and usability in the wide range of Web3D applications from mobile devices to high-end immersive environments. More information on the program is available at: (http://conferences.web3d.org/web3d2010/conference_program)

The ever popular Web3D Art & Design Show is back this year and is open to the public. The Web3D Art & Design group will present the Web3D Design Retrospective as well as an exhibition of new works. Visions of virtual spaces, old and new will be shared. Issues of art, application, design, and theory will be discussed in two talks. For most of the time the space will be open for exploration and contemplation.

Key note Speaker, Dr. Carl Reed’s (CTO, Open Geospatial Consortium ) will present his perspective on integrating networked 3D virtual environments for geospatial technology and his vision of how such technology needs to be developed toward the progress of open, web-ready and ISO platforms.

Along with other technologies, Web3D Consortium’ s (http://web3d.org) X3D enterprise systems will be showcased together with tutorials and workshops discussing the benefits of X3D’s API to the 3D markets. X3D remains the most robust and versatile open standard for implementation of high- integrity and capability 4D multimedia information spaces. With multiple encodings and API bindings, it is compatible with many web and industry technologies.

3D is reaching a new milestone with the convergence of various technologies, Web standards, 3D navigation devices and 3D displays. This year the conference will also focus on recent standards initiatives for 3D on the Web and address issues related to interoperability, longevity, and ownership of 3D content. Tutorials and Workshop topics include: Geo Web3D, E-Learning, Augmented Reality, and Scientific Visualization. Panel session on 3D Business value and New Dimensions of Web3D delivery will catalyze discussions on how technologies and industry leaders can work together for the future of 3D on the Web. These panel session will be open to the public.

This event will be a unique opportunity to see the “state of play” of the emerging Web3D industry. A must-attend 3D Web event of the year. For more information and to register please visit (http://conferences.web3d.org/web3d2010/registration)

About the Web3D Consortium:

The Web3D Consortium is a non-profit, international standards organization that originally spearheaded the development of the VRML specifications. Today, the Web3D Consortium is utilizing its broad-based industry support to continue developing the X3D specification, for communicating 3D on the Web, between applications and across distributed networks and web services. Through well-coordinated efforts with the ISO and W3C, DICOM and the OGC, the Web3D Consortium is maintaining and extending its standardization activities.
