So you want a new 3D High Definition TV (3D HDTV) but just can’t find the necessary 00 to buy one. All is not lost because you might just be able to get one by doing things you do everyday such as watching movies. How?

Well companies often use gifts as an incentive for getting new customers. There are companies out there that then pool a range of lifestyle products together from various companies and then use these incentives to offer a bigger incentive for new customers. In this way movie rental companies could pay to get new customers such as yourself and this new customer fee could go to buying you a new 3D HDTV. Well you might be asking yourself where is the catch?

Well, there isn’t one. As long as you sign up to companies that offer you lifestyle products that you would use every day, such as watching movies, drinking coffee, buying online music, dieting and buying education programs for your children. If you choose products that you would have bought in any case you could be getting something back for your loyalty towards the companies.

It is a win-win for all the parties involved. The companies offering the products get new customers and you can get a new TV for free by using products that you would have used in any case. Normally the free products offered are pretty new on the market and are given away until the next new product comes along, so if you jump on the bandwagon now you could get a free 3D HDTV.

3D TV Is Not Just For Movies

3D TV has generated a lot of buzz lately with all of the recent blockbuster movies coming to DVD. Movie buffs who want to recreate the 3D theatre effect have rushed out to buy one of the first generations of 3-dimentional televisions. Are these TV’s only good for movie aficionados? What is in it for the casual TV viewer? Well, a lot actually.

Watching TV on the couch with the family is about to go to the next level as well. 3D TV is not just for the movies any more. Everything “kicked off” this past summer with the FIFA World Cup Football Championship 2010. This was the first major sports program to be broadcast in 3D.

So what can we expect from channels broadcast in 3D?

One of the popular satellite providers, DIRECTV, already has three dedicated 3D channels in the USA. They include DIRECTV cinema, n3D and ESPN 3D. Also they are currently working with AEG/AEG Digital Media, CBS, Fox Sports/FSN, Golden Boy Promotions, HDNet, MTV, NBC Universal and Turner Broadcasting System to develop additional 3D programming that should debut in 2011. The n3D programming platform will offer a 3D channel focused on sports, music, nature, arts and more. DIRECTV cinema will specialize in Hollywood blockbusters and documentaries.

ESPN 3D is another channel that will be offering sports programs in 3D. They started with the broadcast of the world cup last summer and they plan to feature at least 85 live sporting events during its first year. Some of the other upcoming broadcasts in 3D will be the 2011 BCS National Championship Game, college basketball and football and the Summer X Games.

The Discovery channel plans to launch their own 3D channel. Partnering with Sony and IMAX, Discovery Communications is another 3D TV channel competitor expected to launch in 2011. Although it will not be offered 24/7, the programming will feature content from genres that are most appealing in 3D, including natural history, space, exploration, adventure, engineering, science and technology, motion pictures and children’s programming from Discovery, Sony Pictures Entertainment, IMAX and other third-party providers.

For those who do not live in the US and want their TV in 3D, there are some options for you as well. Canal 3D will be the first 3D TV channel in France. The new 3D channel will broadcast movies, live events, sports and animation. Spain will have 3D Pictures which will broadcast content such as sports, movies, concerts, entertainment, documentaries, animation, plays, circus, current affairs and high profile live events. Sky Channel 3D is the first 3D TV in the United Kingdom. The original test was a broadcast between Arsenal and Manchester United in a few different pubs in London, Manchester, Cardiff and Edinburgh. The test was such a success that they plan to offer movies, sport, documentaries and entertainment programs.

No matter what your interests, 3D TV will soon have something for everyone. Movies, sports and documentaries will all be coming to a 3D TV near you.

Sorry you would have to purchase a new television HDTV that has 3D capability and if you want 3D movies on Blu-Ray you would also have to buy a Blu-Ray 3D player as well. This can really be really expensive.

Below is a layman’s explanation of how the new range of 3D HDTVs show 3D images and movies. So how do they actually do it?

3D video technology isn’t anything new. In fact, 3D movies were popular decades ago but they had the disadvantage of requiring that viewers wear special glasses with polarized lenses to provide the illusion of a 3D picture. So how is 3D HDTV technology different?

3D HDTV screens still require that viewers wear special glasses that black out one eye at a time at a rate of roughly 120 times per second for each eye. This is so fast that viewers aren’t even aware that this is happening. So where does the 3D come in?

The television set then displays different images at a slightly different angle for each eye. That way the slightly different images will enter the viewer’s eyes and provide the illusion of depth. The more different the angles of each image the more realistic the three dimensional effect. So now we have to ask where we will these 3D movies come from?

Currently quite a few movies have been released in 3D. These include the likes of Avatar, Disney’s Up and Monsters vs. Aliens. Disney has also declared that all their future releases will be in 3D so finding new content will not be a problem. Also, you wonder if you can view current 2D movies in 3D?

Currently there is software being developed that will convert 2D shows into 3D. A lot of the TV manufacturers have also announced that their new 3D TV models will include converters capable of making this conversion. So finding content won’t be a problem in future.

Companies hope that providing consumers with something they can instantly watch on new 3D TVs and Blu-ray players will entice them to pony up the thousands of dollars to buy the hardware.

Panasonic started selling its 3D TVs at Best Buy’s store in New York’s Union Square on Wednesday, bundling a 50-inch plasma TV, one pair of glasses and a 3D Blu-ray player for $2,900. The glasses alone cost $150, while the 3D TV is $2,500.

Fox won’t start offering “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” to Panasonic customers until April. Pic will be its first 3D release on Blu-ray. It has not yet set a release date for the 3D homevid version of “Avatar.”

Meanwhile the 3D Blu-ray version of “Monsters vs. Aliens” will be bundled with Samsung Electronics’ 46-inch set, two pairs of glasses and a 3D Blu-ray player for $3,000, also starting this week.

As a promotional tool, Samsung will have an exclusive on the 3D Blu-ray versions of all four “Shrek” movies later this year for a full year, while regular versions of the Blu-rays will be available through all retailers.

Rivals LG Electronics will introduce its 3D TVs in stores in May, while Sony will bow its hardware in June, and Vizio in August. The TV sets will be able to switch between 3D and regular 2D.

Partnerships between electronics makers and Hollywood aren’t unusual. Bundles of movies with hardware was common when DVD and Blu-ray was introduced, to get consumers to adopt the homevid formats.

Fox had already been working with Panasonic to promote movies, including “Avatar,” while DreamWorks Animation has long paired up with high-tech brands to promote its toons.

As studios release more movies in 3D in theaters, their homevideo divisions are hoping that the sale of 3D TVs will take off and help sell higher-priced 3D Blu-rays, as well, significantly boosting profit margins.

It’s expected that owners of 3D TVs will seek out other movies to view, and the bundles will remind them of other titles that are worthy of slipping on a pair of 3D glasses.

“There may be a couple of times that are considered game changers in the industry and this is that moment for home entertainment,” said Mary Daily, executive VP of marketing for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. “Over the last year we have seen 3D invigorate the theatrical experience and it will do the same for the living room.”

Naturally, it helps that customers are already fans of the movies being offered.

ISLEWORTH, ENGLAND, February 03, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ — Sky has announced that it will launch Sky 3D, Europe’s first dedicated 3D TV channel, this April. As part of the final preparations for this ground-breaking launch, Sky will preview the new service with a world first on Sunday 31 January 2010, becoming the first TV company anywhere to broadcast a live 3D TV sports event to a public audience. The Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester United will be filmed in 3D and broadcast over the Sky platform to selected pubs around the UK and Ireland, with their customers becoming the first audiences anywhere in the world to experience live Premier League in 3D.

To support this landmark broadcast, the nine pubs – located in London, Manchester, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Dublin – have been kitted out specially with some of the first ’3D Ready’ TV sets to reach the UK and Ireland. As 3D TVs become more widely available, Sky will roll out its 3D channel to hundreds of pubs from April, allowing football fans across the country the opportunity to experience a live Premier League match in 3D each week.

Once 3D TVs begin to reach the consumer market later this year, Sky will then make Sky 3D available to all Sky+HD customers, giving millions of people the opportunity to watch a wide range of content in 3D, including movies, sport, documentaries, entertainment, and the arts.

Sky 3D works with all existing Sky+HD boxes and will initially be introduced at no extra cost for customers who subscribe to Sky’s top TV package and the Sky HD pack. Sky 3D will also be compatible with all 3D Ready TVs coming to the UK and Ireland this year, including all models from Sony, Samsung, LG and Panasonic.

To make the 3D preview a reality, Sky Sports will produce two edits of its live coverage of Sunday’s game at the Emirates Stadium, one for its HD channel feed and another dedicated to 3D. Eight specially engineered 3D camera rigs will house sixteen of Sky’s high definition cameras, to provide comprehensive stereoscopic coverage from all angles. The 3D broadcast will be supported by Sky’s dedicated 3D production team and purpose built 3D outside broadcast truck, which will enable live mixing between camera positions, slow motion replays and the use of innovative 3D graphics. There will also be a dedicated commentary team to support the 3D edit.
