New Report: 450% Increase in 3D Cinema Screens in 18 Months
(PRWEB) January 19, 2011
3D made a big splash a year ago, and it is still going strong.
In mid-2009 there were about 5,000 3D movie screens worldwide. Now there are over 22,300 3D screens worldwide. This is an increase of nearly 450% in 18 months.
There continues to be an explosion of 3D movie titles, too. The first digital 3D movie was Disney’s Chicken Little in 2005. The number of digital 3D movie titles has nearly doubled every year since. In 2010 the number of 3D titles was just over 30. The number of announced 3D titles for 2011 is now approaching 60.
There is an explosion of 3D consumer electronics products, too. A year ago the market got excited with the introduction of 3D TVs and Blu-ray players. With a couple of small exceptions, 3D products from major brands were limited to just these two product categories. This year at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show the market saw the introduction of products in at least 17 product categories. New 3D products ranged from camcorders to picture frames to notebooks and tablets.
And, while more is needed, there is going to be a lot more 3D to watch. In addition to all the personal 3D video people will take, in 2011 we will see ESPN’s 3D channel go 24/7; and Discovery’s 3D Channel, also 24/7, will finally turn on. There will even be a 3D channel from Penthouse.
Despite the writings of some people that say 3D was last year’s disappointment, the industry is pushing ahead. The 3D industry is still very young, so if it is not as big as some predicted, keep in mind that many things really only got started half a year ago. 2010 saw a lot of progress. That said, there is still a lot the industry needs to do.
A new 266 page report from DIGDIA details the complete 3D Entertainment ecosystem, pointing out the practical realities the industry is facing and the opportunities companies have for growth.

Free Guide Helps Gamers Achieve Big Screen 3D on a Budget
(PRWEB) November 8, 2010
Call of Duty – Black Ops 3D and other new generation games are best played large – and even better in 3D. A new, free guide, entitled The Gamers’ Guide To 3D, has been published by Beamax to help gamers prepare for affordable, 3D big screen gaming.
The Guide demystifies technical terms and sets out clearly the components gamers will have to buy to complete their system to get the best 3D results. The Beamax Gamers’ Guide To 3D is published to coincide with the release of Call of Duty – Black Ops 3D on the 9th November, and is available as a free PDF download at http://www.projectionscreen.net/3d .
Author of the Guide and founder of Beamax, Otto Tromm, an enthusiastic gamer himself, and explains that:
“At its highest level, gaming is about putting yourself at the heart of the action – where you share the perspective with the other characteristics, rather than looking into the game from the outside as you do with a flatscreen TV. To buy a TV big enough to create life size characters and to be fully immersive would cost many thousands. In our new Guide we show gamers how to achieve a high definition, 3D big screen gaming experience for a few hundreds.”
The Beamax Gamers’ Guide To 3D helps gamers choose a 3D-ready projector, select a projection screen, active glasses and the right cables to complete their gaming system. It provides practical advice on setting up the projector and screen with a console, and explains the issues of cabling for sound and vision.
The guide can be downloaded from the company’s blog: http://www.projectionscreen.net/3d
Worldwide sales of 3D projectors will exceed 1 million units this year and will rise to 5.4 million annually (1) within five years. Many of these will be bought by gamers looking for the truly immersive experience that only a high-definition, big screen projection system can provide.
Adding 3D capabilities to big screen gaming takes the gamer into the realm of virtual reality, and provides games developers with a whole new set of creative possibilities. The launch of Call of Duty – Black Ops 3D is just the first in a stream of new titles as games developers rush to exploit the potential of 3D.
Imminent releases include popular titles such as Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 3 and Motorstorm: Apocalypse among many others.
The Beamax Gamers’ Guide To 3D enables the majority of gamers to enjoy the full potential of 3D gaming in an affordable way.

Symon Communications Launches a Different Approach to 3D
January 22, 2011
Plano, TX (PRWEB) February 23, 2010
Symon Communications, a global provider of visual communication and digital signage solutions, announced today that it will be showing its Symon LiveView display at the Digital Signage Expo tradeshow and conference in Las Vegas, NV on February 24th and 25th.
Symon LiveView, is a virtual 3D display that uses patented optical technology to present digital content in very eye-catching and life-like fashion without the need for 3D glasses or special production equipment. Because of its design, Symon LiveView’s content creation costs are much lower than traditional 3D technologies and in most cases are equal to the cost of 2D content production. Symon LiveView customers need only have Symon’s Design Studio software and industry-standard content creation tools to create a very compelling 3D experience out of 2D content.
Symon LiveView is targeted at any consumer-facing industry that wants to have their message stand out and be noticed. The hospitality, gaming and retail industries are prime candidates for Symon LiveView as each industry has special messages or products that, if noticed, can generate significant revenue. Steve Gurley, Symon’s Vice President of Marketing, put it this way: “Imagine a jewelry retailer who has an expensive diamond setting that they want noticed. With Symon LiveView, the setting would appear to almost jump out of the screen. I believe that the uniqueness of this experience alone would be enough to entice the retailer’s customer to request to see the real product.”
Symon LiveView works by presenting two-dimensional (2D) content on a high-brightness, high-definition LCD monitor. It then uses a special beam-splitting glass that is positioned in front of the monitor to reflect a décor-specific pattern that is installed in a customizable fixture that is situated above the viewer’s head. The reflection of the pattern on the beam-splitting glass creates the perception of depth and makes the 2D content look almost alive. By using this approach, Symon takes advantage of an optical illusion to create a virtual 3D experience out of ordinary 2D content.
Symon LiveView can be purchased with an optional touch screen display that can be attached to the front of the LiveView display. This screen, if installed, allows viewers to choose or interact with the content that is presented on the LiveView screen. The content for both screens and the interactive elements on the touch screen are all designed and controlled by Symon’s Enterprise Suite of software products.
Symon LiveView display can also be purchased with an optional stand. This stand can be built with finishes to accommodate and complement almost any décor.
According to Charles Ansley, Symon’s President and CEO, “Symon LiveView is one of those inventions that is so straight-forward in its design and so elegant in its implementation that once you see it you’ll likely say to yourself: “WOW! I want one of those! This is also one of those inventions that will allow our customers to deliver a very engaging experience without the inconvenience and high content creation costs normally associated with tradition 3D displays.” Mr. Ansley went on to say, “I am convinced that the ease of creating content will make the total cost of ownership of Symon LiveView far less with than that of other 3D technologies.”
Volume shipments of the Symon LiveView display and its optional stand will begin in April, 2010.

3D TV Glasses: A Birthday Gift for Grandma

We all know that our grandparents life style is already different amongst us young ones.
They find it hard to sleep at night, they always have to watch something or read something before they could get a good long sleep. As what I’ve notice my grandma loves to watch TV, some are classic movies and they like to tell stories about what that movie is all about and naming after each artist who played a role on it.
Coming this season of the year there’s a lot of birthday coming up, so I guess it will be kind of us if we give our grandparents a little birthday present, just thinking about what they have done to us when we were still like helpless maggots and squirming little babies (little poop machines).
They watch over us when our parents our out or sometimes we even live among them. Well I’m thinking about giving a birthday gift for our good grandparents from these modern hi tech times. From before they have lived to watch classic films and movies on normal TV and black and white cinema screens. We can give them a present, something new for them to enjoy and let them experience and share to them what the high technology gadgets of the modern time can offer.
I heard that TV glasses are cool. A TV screen on the lens of the glasses. They look like just one pair of reading glasses. Only that they look more modern. They have a pair of headphones and a connector to your video source.
It could be a great gift for our grandparents and you wont have to worry about can they see the images, because the visual images is like your watching 20 meters away from a cinema and has a headphone (like a hearing aide). Good for late night shows and just seating in a rocking chair drinking warm milk. That would really be fun for our grandparents.
If you are wondering how this amazing gadget costs or if it is worth the buy, well its price ranges from 0 to 0. Of course, the price and the features vary with the brand of TV glasses you choose. But it’s just fair enough to make our grandma’s birthday present cool.

The Connection between the 3D Glasses and the 3D TV
The glasses are the accessories responsible for making the owner or the audience members enjoy the 3D experience. Without the glasses, there is absolutely no way that they can see the three-dimensional images that could be floating around them as 3D images are normally impossible to see merely by the naked eye. In short, without the glasses, the 3D TV will only be a regular TV.

is there anything special about 3d tvs ? can u watch 3d movies like avatar “3d” on regular tv with glasses ?
how much are they gonna cost ?
when are they gonna become available?
Best answer:
Answer by Larry L
The new 3D TVs are somewhat different than the 2D TVs that are already out. They have built-in transmitters that will allow the 3D glasses to sync with the picture. Another TV requirement is that it be at least a 120 Hz refresh rate. Not all TVs have that. There are kits that will be coming out that will allow capable older TVs to be able to handle the new 3D, but they are not out yet. No word on when those will be available.
3D glasses will be around $ 100-$ 150 to start and Samsung and Sony have them available now.
Samsung has just come out with the first 3D TVs. You can get info at www.BestBuy.com on cost for all of the equipment.
Other manufacturers will be coming out with their TVs over the next several months. Walmart just announced that they will be selling 3D TVs this coming holiday season.

Q&A: Should I get a regular LED tv or a 3d LED tv?
January 18, 2011
Question by Chris: Should I get a regular LED tv or a 3d LED tv?
I’ve decided to get a Samsung LED LCD tv but I can’t decide if 3d is worth getting yet. If I get the regular LED, I’d be getting the Samsung 46″ B8500. If I go with the 3d Samsung model, I’ll be getting the C8000. Any thoughts from people who have 3D or play xbox 360 with 3D?
Best answer:
Answer by Joe
save some money and get the identical picture c7000(the 8000 is silver and has ‘precision dimming’-not to be confused with ‘local’ dimming-. Precision dimming is just a useless gimmick), plus you can get it in a package with a free 3d Blur Ray player and 2 pairs of 3d glasses from Samsung.
The 8500, while a great tv(and IS local dimming), is last years model….always try to ‘futureproof’ yourself…..3d is coming hard
and fast……but only satellite has 3d channels and 1080p signal(yes they do)…Cable has too many bandwith restrictions…so If you plan on going with Cable for the next 10 years, I guess it doesn’t matter which tv you get.

Early in 2010 Samsung was the first major manufacturer to launch a commercial 3D HDTV. There’s been so much hype about 3D recently that an enormous amount depends on the impression this set makes; if people don’t take to 3D at once, the feature may never take off. Very cleverly Samsung has come up with a TV so stunning that 3D is only one of its many features.
One way the Samsung 40C7000 overcomes the current lack of availability of 3D material is that it features a 2D to 3D conversion function which will add depth to any flat image. Of course, it doesn’t work as well as with genuine 3D-mastered material; the only way to get the full effect is from a 3D Blu-Ray player.
The other source for 3D material will be broadcast, and the broadcasters making the biggest noise about 3D at the moment are ESPN, Discovery and Sky.
The set also has a feature called Internet@TV which lets you get connected to the web right on your HDTV, with downloadable and customizable widgets. These widgets give you access to Blockbuster, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, Amazon Video On Demand and Skype. With Skype you can enjoy free picture-in-picture video calls right from your couch.
The set also includes a tuner and has a port that enables you to connect a thumb drive or digital camera quickly and easily. The user-friendly interface allows access to videos, music playlists and pictures via the remote.
Game lovers will find a “Game Mode” that enhances dark areas, sharpens the picture, speeds up the image processing response and enhances the sounds of games.
For those that are energy conscious the set exceeds the Energy Star Standards and is up to 57% more energy efficient than the Energy Star 4.0 minimum standards.

Breakthrough Technology Brings Realism to Online Home Design
January 15, 2011
Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) August 25, 2004
Using real-time 3D technology normally seen only in 3D games, plan3D.com now gives homeowners the ability to design and remodel kitchens in 3D, in real time. For the first time ever, users now see their designs come alive in real-time 3D as theyÂ?re creating and editing.
Â?Three years ago, when we started this project, no one believed we could create an online 3D design tool for homeowners. Least of all that theyÂ?d be able see real furniture, appliances and home improvement products from manufacturers in their plans.Â? laughs Michael Gariepy, co-founder of plan3D.com and ArtToday.com. Â?WeÂ?ve not only proven itÂ?s possible Â? itÂ?s clearly something consumers have been dying for. Sales for plan3D have grown 500% since the pay site opened in July.Â?
Plan3D gives subscribers the ability to see 3D models of real products from real manufacturers in their plans. Currently, plan3D offers 150 skylights from Velux and has plans to add thousands more 3D models from other manufacturers in the coming months.
Â?Studies have shown that online visualization is key to consumers making a purchasing decisionÂ? explains Kate Hayes, VP of Marketing for plan3D. Â?There are quite a few sites on the Internet experimenting with 3D visualization but none have the realism or the horsepower of plan3D.Â?
Plan3D’s web-based open architecture allows brick and mortar retailers and manufacturers to put 3D models of their products on their own websites so consumers can drag and drop them into their 3D plans. This “3D ecosystem” makes it easier for vendors and homeowners to buy and sell furniture and home improvement products online. “At the very least homeowners will get an idea of what is available before they make a trip across town. They’ll also see if the products fit in their rooms,” says Gariepy
Plan3D improves upon the paradigm of older-style home design software products like Punch and 3D Home Architect by allowing users to edit naturally in realistic 3D Â? not just in blueprint mode. And by doing so online, it relieves users of having to upgrade their CDs or download patches. Â?The Internet is the future of software distribution.Â? continues Gariepy, Â?Not only is CD distribution cumbersome, downloading and installing software is unnecessarily tedious. Our users simply click a button to run plan3D.”
Plan3D is a 400K browser plug-in that works with Windows XP or 2000 and IE 6. Minimum system requirements are a 1,000 MHz PC, 32MB 3D video card and 128MB of RAM.
Plan3D.com opened in May, 2004. Annual subscriptions sell for .95. A special version is available for manufacturers and retailers for use on their websites.
Plan3D is a trademark of plan3D, Inc. Plan3D is a startup company founded in October, 2001. Plan3D is available now. Plan3D is a trademark of Plan3D, Inc. Portions are patent pending.
