3D TV
3DTV is an amazing new technology that provides viewers with 3 dimensional video in the comfort of their own homes. Televisions that are capable of displaying 3D are referred to as 3DTV’s and are set to hit the consumer market in 2010. This relatively new technology promises to provide 3D viewing capabilities for movies and television programming from a home console unit.
At the moment, there are few videos available for the new 3DTV consoles. Once the technology catches on, we expect the majority of movies and television programming will be available in the 3D format that will be viewable on 3DTV’s. Aside from requiring a 3DTV, you will also require a 3D player to play 3D content. For the first several years you should expect to only watch 3D content using DVD’s. After that, it will probably become common to broadcast 3D content through the cable networks.
3DTV consoles are built on HDTV technology to provide viewers the 3D experience. Manufacturers like Sony and Panasonic have already rolled out models for 2010 and expect the demand will grow substantially in the next few years. With sales slumping in HDTV, the new demand for 3DTV will rejuvenate some of the larger television manufactures adopting the technology.
A common question about the new 3DTV technology is if it will require the usage of 3D glasses to view the 3D content. The answer is “yes” for now anyways. Glasses will be available from a variety of manufacturers at various price points. Expect to see 3DTV versions that do not require the glasses available to the consumer market in approximately three to four years.
Since the 3DTV revolution started there has been widespread interest in learning more about it. Keep your eyes open and visit your local electronics store regularly to get your chance on becoming one of the first to experience this new technology.
